My next Nina Morrison directed-conceived-inspired adventure is upon us. Many of the same cast and collaborators from last summer’s extravaganza Girl Adventure will be gracing the stage again in Dixon Place’s HOT! festival on july 19th, 2012 at 7:30pm.
After a workshop performance earlier in 2012, the ladies are back with new music, new moves, new lines and less dancers. But don’t worry about that dancer thing, it’s still going to be awesome.
Working with Nina is indeed a breath of fresh air. She is full of new ideas, creates pieces that surround female characters in an inclusive way, draws inspiration from mythology, her actors personal stories, and the charming moments in her own daily life.
Arrow in follows the character of Wendy who finds herself in confusing situations in her work and personal life. It seems that everyone around her knows a special something she cannot comprehend. To further alienate her, she wakes up with a mysterious object and pursues advice and support from the people around her. In addition to a quirky therapist, Wendy’s group of female coworkers also play a role in deconstructing her ideas and offering support. it turns out that there is a sense of magic in everyday moments in the most unusual places. the quicker that Wendy can accept her surroundings instead of fight against them, the less confused and more at peace she will be.
I love working with Nina and all my fellow actresses and collaborators in this piece. It is a whirlwind of joy. This is a one-night performance that will celebrate the additions to the excerpt we performed earlier in the year and commend original work made, directed and performed by women. I hope if you’re in New York you will make yourself available the night of the 19th. After all, it’s the only not-for-profit theatre in the city with a liquor license. Cheers!
