Secretly-Important began in the summer of 2011, but it began humbly the year before as a personal blog of daily observations and stories. Eventually I branched out, to write not only about myself but about things that I liked, things that I didn’t think people knew about or at the very least that my friends knew about. So I started Secretly-Important.com.
It would be an understatement to say that Secretly-Important has been a labor of love, it has been an all consuming force that devours hours, days, weeks, months, and years of my life. We’ve expanded into a podcast (the secretly-importantcast)originally recorded with paper clips, a shoelace, and bubble gum, we’ve evolved into a decent set up with microphones a mixing board, and a working knowledge of GarageBand.
I started this website for two reasons:
- To tell people about the music, and comedy that I feel is secretly-important.
- In telling readers/listeners about these artists, said artists would find new audiences and cease to be secretly-important, becoming just, important.
It’s fitting and not coincidental that the title of this website originated with Pacific Northwest writer Steven Jesse Bernstein. His work has been highly influential to myself and many, many artists not only in the Northwest but in the entire United States. Following his suicide in 1991 Bernstein himself became secretly-important.
